I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway. Wonderful. Brilliant. Maher is sooo good. The Fields was a standout coming of age tale. This is about fatherhood in the 21st century, including divorce, an affair and a coke habit. But its much more than that. Kevin is such a wonderful writer and when he writes about the pain of parenthood, the worry, anxiety, fear under the love well... This was a giver upper. I gave it 36% and then had a brief feckin convo wi meself and thought 'what the feck am I doing bothering wi this when I'm on me vacationals?' So I gave up. The charm of The Fields doesn't work here...maybe it's the adult narration (think The Fields was narrated by a boy?) The stylised writing was too much hard...
