This book is the place to start if you're looking for a fairly unbiased primer on the history of Mormon theology and culture covering from its roots to almost present day. I say almost present day because some things have changed since 2011: e.g., women now pray in General Conferences of the church, the missionary age has been lowered... So at first I thought this book's framing was a little too narrow.
