I heard the book described as jaws but with bats. Not nearly as good as Jaws.... The native American mythology was kind of an interesting twist with the story but I felt it was lacking and I wouldn't have minded seeing more of it mixed in with the story. Nothing particularly spectacular. Plague-carrying vampire bats, Native American mystics, and a token love story. In Rob Nixon's superb book Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor he asserts that there isn't a great anti-oil novel/movement the same way there's a great body of anti-coal/industrialization literature.
