This is exactly the type of fantasy I love to find. Filled with magic, portents, gods and Oni that drive the characters. Unlike so many fantasy writers, the author doesn't try to explain how the magic works, it is just a natural part of this ancient Japanese world of Samurai and Imperial intrigue.I particularly like the main character,... He sleeps beneath the lake,The dragon child,But he will wake And spread his wings again,When the deers child comes.Sounds so peaceful, right? Pastoral, almost.But the Tale of Shikanoko is a bloody game of thrones inspired by medieval Japan and told in riveting, heartbreaking fashion. About : If you havent read book I or at least my... I liked this entry better than the first and think it was a clever idea to combine the two books in some other versions. A more natural 'ending'.
