The Fires Of Bride
A Lesbian, Novels, Glbt book. Set on a remote Scottish island, an artist discovers herself through the pagan-goddess past. Hilarious and cool, Galford rules!
Cailleach, the outermost island of the Utter Utters, is so remote that it only emerges from the mist every hundred years or so (ferry permitting). But what is it that seduces Maria, a fugitive artist, into staying so long? Her love affair with Catriona, clan chieftain, GP and witch? The magic touch of the elusive seaweed woman perhaps? Ina Isbister's cloudberry jam? Or could it be her strange empathy with the Sisters of Bride who, in centuries past, worshipped the One True Goddess, victim of an ancient typographical error?Maria finds new inspiration and fulfilment where women have, since Viking times, repulsed male marauders--be they Harald Bloodaxe, medieval Vatican emissaries, the Reverend Murdo McNeish, or Scotty MacCrumb of Indian Graves, Oklahoma.

More About The Fires Of Bride
Set on a remote Scottish island, an artist discovers herself through the pagan-goddess past. Hilarious and cool, Galford rules! This was a lucky find as I was randomly looking through the fiction section at the library. This is a great book. I hadn't read a good lesbian feminist witchy novel in a long time, so I'm glad I picked this up. Love that it's set in the far north of Scotland, too. Going to look for others by this author. i really really tried to get into this book, but i couldnt. i liked moll catpurse, her previous novel. this was awful. boo!
