More About Lewis and Clark and Me: A Dog's Tale
My Rating *** 3 stars, I liked it.This is a neat little book for lower grades, say 3-6. It describes a bit what the Lewis and Clark journey was like through the voice of Lewis's dog, Seaman. Seaman is a Newfoundland breed dog. He loves Lewis and it seems they are a great match. Each chapter corresponds to an actual, documented event... I have a generally low opinion of historical fiction for children -- because most of it is such low quality. But this book is unlike most of the books in that category that I have read. It is historically accurate, fun to read, and beautiful! A "diary" from Merriwether Lewis' dog's point of view. Actual diary entries from Meriwether Lewis provides context for each chapter. It provides a different perspective to view the Lewis and Clark expedition. Fun read!
