Bloody Flies is a sequence of episodes that offer glimpses of expat life in the opening decade of the 21st century, and the shifting morals that occur when Middle East meets West. More About Bloody Flies

My relief dissipates as James Blunt's yowling voice is overwhelmed by the scream of locking brakes:eieeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... My head lurches into darkness. Andrew J. Keir, Bloody Flies // I want to sleep, Charlie,' I say to my dead son. 'Please let me sleep. Andrew J. Keir, Bloody Flies // Taking a deep breath, I head back to Gatsby's to find Joy. Andrew J. Keir, Bloody Flies //

Bloody Flies is Andrew J Keir's first novel. Intriguing and innovative, it reveals the disturbing and complicated world of Leo and Diana Hunter via a series of compelling short stories, which work equally as well on their own and as part of the whole. After the death of Leo's father, the Hunters make the reluctant decision to leave Warrington... Any sympathy I had for the main character disappeared when I discovered he voluntarily listened to James Blunt. But seriously - it is a pretty bleak take on expat life in Abu Dhabi. Even one of the few upbeat parts of the book, where Leo tells his son about how he met his Mother and swam with a turtle, ends with the turtle's shell being... what an interesting novel, brilliant thought provoking book.
