The book seemed to be largely a retelling of "Travels of Marco Polo", with a little bit of historical context and analysis added. It's a fascinating story, so it kept me interested. I just expected more after Bergreen's much better book about Magellan.Too often the author speculates on what Marco "must have" thought or felt about something.... I listened to this as an audio-book and it was one of my favorites. Of course, I have heard of Marco Polo but I had no idea of the extent of his travels nor of the circumstances of the trip. The book opens with a naval siege of Venice by Genoa, and Marco becoming a prisoner of war. During his time as a prisoner - which was in relative...
