Takes on beauty and aging and assimilation but in a heavy-handed fashion. I also didn't find the quality in the prose that other readers have. The narrative voice just wasn't compelling, so I shut things down @ 100 (out of 200) pages in. In my mind, The Bluest Eye is same themes, better book.
