Good writing, but I'm not sure what exactly to recommend about it. I guess if you're really into seafaring...? i could tell you the day i was reading this one. march 7th, 1981, the wash king laundromat on n.e. 17th avenue in gainesville, florida. things happen. i can't honestly say if i finished this one. youth.... ummmm. things happen...and so it goes. A short piece about a young man's first voyage as First Mate. It beautifully expresses what it is like to be young and filled with a sense of responsibility and the thrill of feeling one's power to succeed against the odds. This has got to be one of Conrad's best stories, possibly because it is so near to his own experience. I love...
