“All he has to do is bypass the gatekeeper of the thrice-tenth kingdom and bring me a fern flower, a dragon’s heart, and a rusałka’s lock of hair. Easy.”On the outskirts of a quiet Canadian town, in a cabin perched on chicken feet and surrounded by a fence of skulls, live Baba Yaga and her ward, Aurelia. Young Aurelia yearns for romance, for adventure, for freedom from her baba—but every one of Aurelia’s suitors so far has failed Mrs. Yaga’s three simple tasks. When her last—and favourite—date disappears, Aurelia must decide to continue her daydreams of freedom, or embark on an adventure of her own.

THE REVIEWWhy this book?Another short story on The Book SmugglersWhat I thoughtI enjoyed this short story.I liked that she took her life into whole own hands and created her own destiny.Though I wish there was more of it,it seemed like it ended right after it began. Overall it was an interestng little read, that I recommend It's such an intriguing premise, I wish it were longer. It works as a short story, yes, but there is so much that can be mined from this. Probably my only complaint about this story was that it was too short! The feminist elements were super cool (teen girl rescuing herself = ALWAYS my jam) and the bits about Baba Yaga were so cleverly woven in. Very nicely done.
